Choir Information

Dear Choir Members:

Just to clarify, the choir will not be singing at the service this
Sunday, January 1st. We will begin regular Wednesday-night rehearsals
this coming Wednesday night, the 4th.

See you then, and thanks for all the great singing these past several
weeks. (We even had nine people to sing in the choir on Christmas morning!)

Greetings

Dear Choir:

"The Day-Spring" was a great treat for me last Sunday, and I hope it was
for you also. I thought it went pretty much without a flaw: the
soloists did an excellent job, the choir sounded great, and Laura and
Sue played beautifully. And with the young people joining us on the
final chorus, it made a lovely and exciting end to the cantata. Thanks
to everyone for all the hard work and for capturing the style of the
music so wonderfully.

Wednesday evening we will rehearse the Christmas Eve music. Then, let's
plan to meet at 10:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve so we can have time to go
over everything before the 11:00 service.

Also, it appears that we will have a small but nonetheless stalwart
group of singers for the Christmas morning service, so we will plan to
meet at our usual time (8:45 a.m.) that morning to practice an anthem or
two for that service.

Thanks again to everyone for your time and talent -- and a blessed
Christmas to all.

Sincerely,

Allan

Rehearsal Reminder

Dear Choir Members:

Just a reminder that we will have rehearsal tomorrow evening (Wednesday) for those who are available -- but remember, it starts at 7:00!  We need to rehearse the music we are singing with Rob McManus on Sunday morning, as well as sing through the Christmas cantata, just to keep it fresh in our minds.

We will finish at 8:00.  Hope you can make it.

Thanks to all.

See you then.

Choir Rehearsals Begin

Dear Choir Members:

The summer certainly went by quickly/slowly, and it's that time again.

Choir rehearsals will begin again this Wednesday evening, September 7th,
at the usual time -- 7:30 p.m.

We will sing at the service next Sunday, the 11th -- with a brass
quartet and our new organist, Laura Edman -- so I look forward to seeing
you Wednesday evening.

It appears that a number of people will be out of town this week
including on Sunday, so I doubly hope you can be there Wednesday and
Sunday! (And bring a friend!)

Thanks again for your time and talent.

Fwd: "Oliver!" - Show Invite

If you have any evenings available this weekend, come and see "Oliver" at the Stillwater High School auditorium (see attachment).  There's a cast of thousands, but among them are First Presbyterian members Stephanie Frost, Ben Farmer, and me.  I understand that tickets are still available for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon -- and that there will undoubtedly be some walk-up tickets available at the box office for tonight's and Friday's sold-out performances.

Hope you can come.

Summer Singing

Greetings!

Jane Boss forwarded to me the information below; she and Dan, Julie James, and Mary Gillespie have attended these summer sings in the past and intend to do so this summer also.  Maybe some of you would like to join in.  It looks like fun.  (And keep vocalizing......)

Thanks for Sunday!

Dear Choir:

Thanks so much to all of you who sang "Battle Hymn of the Republic" for
yesterday's service. I think that the many individual comments we
received from members of the congregation attest to how meaningful it
was to them. It was great to have Lenny and Lyle join us in the choir,
and we owe special gratitude to Rebecca Erickson for her excellent work
at the piano playing the difficult accompaniment. So, thanks to all of
you for turning out early to rehearse and for singing and playing
beautifully; it was much appreciated by everyone.

Sincerely,

Allan

Battle Hymn of the Republic Reminder

Dear Choir Members:

Just a reminder that this Sunday is the day we will be singing "Battle
Hymn of the Republic" (I realize that some of you have indicated that
you cannot be there, but it was easier just to send this e-mail to all
names on the choir list).

The plan is to meet at 8:30 a.m. in the choir loft to rehearse the
anthem, then sing for the service at 9:30. We won't wear robes, and the
music will be available in the sanctuary.

I think there will be several non-regular-choir-members joining us, but
we can always use more, so please invite others to come and sing.

Looking forward to seeing all who can be with us,

Allan

Choir

Dear Choir Members:

I am usually sending out these e-mails to remind you of something, and I will do that in this e-mail.

However, the main reason I am writing is to say what a pleasure Wednesday night's choir rehearsal was.  I really enjoyed the evening:  everybody was singing so musically, and doing so much more than just going through the notes.  It really made the music come alive.  And it was fun having the instruments there, also.  So thanks to everyone for that rewarding experience.

I thought I should let you know this.  But -- since I have you on the line, so to speak, I'll also remind you of the starting time for Sunday morning's rehearsal:  8:15 a.m.  I think we'll need all this time to sing through everything before the service starts at 9:30.

See you then.  And thanks again.

    Sincerely,

                    Allan

More choir information

Dear Choir Members:

Sorry that I forgot to indicate in my previous message our rehearsal
time for Easter Sunday morning. I think we will need to (brace
yourself) meet at 7:45 a.m. that morning in order to have time to get
everything rehearsed. But remember that we used to do that with some
regularity, so this is like old times! And remember also that there is
a breakfast between the services. Also, that we are taking the summer off.

And a further reminder that information about the choir schedule is
posted on the choir's web site:

https://sites.google.com/site/firstpresstillwaterchoir/

See you tomorrow night at 7:00.

Allan

Schedule for this week

Dear Choir Members:

Just a reminder that choir rehearsal this Wednesday is at 7:00 p.m.  We will finish by 8:45.

The schedules for Thursday and Friday:

Maundy Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church -- Rehearsal at 6:00, service at 7:00.

Good Friday at First Presbyterian -- Rehearsal at 6:00, service at 7:00.

On Easter Sunday morning there are two services, at 8:30 and 11:00.  In past years we have normally stayed through both services on Easter Sunday, so let's plan to do so; if there are singers whose schedule for the day would require their leaving early, those people could slip out after the anthem, but I hope most can remain so that we can end the service with a nice musical benediction.

Thanks for your time, talent, and enduring devotion.

            Sincerely,

                        Allan

Wednesday Rehearsal

Dear Choir Members:

Just a reminder that our rehearsal tomorrow night will be at Our
Savior's Lutheran Church, not at First Presbyterian. If you are able to
be at their church soon after 7:00 (I realize there are some who cannot
make it early), we can have a short rehearsal of our own before we join
their choir to rehearse with Bill Beckstrand. If you can come early
just go to their choir room. It's easy to locate: come in the back
door off the back parking lot, turn right at the first hallway, then
immediately right again into the choir room.

I will bring the folders of any people who might have not taken their's
home with them on Sunday, so don't worry about picking up your music at
our church.

After our combined rehearsal, we will have a rehearsal there with just
our own choir and be finished by 9:15.

It will be fun to sing this great new composition together, and I look
forward to seeing you tomorrow night.

Thanks.

Allan

Sanctuary Choir Notes

Dear Choir Members:

We have received the entire score for the new composition Bill
Beckstrand has written for our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday
services. It is a beautiful work, very accessible, and we will be
singing through the entire piece at tonight's rehearsal. I'm sure you
will enjoy singing it.

Also tonight, guest-harpist Denise Boczek will be with us to rehearse
this coming Sunday's two anthems (one of which also includes our
resident clarinetist, Dan Roth).

We have a lot of music to prepare for the coming Sundays -- (they seem
to be coming up quicker than usual!). So I hope you can be at rehearsal
tonight and in the upcoming weeks.

Thanks for your time, talent, and devotion.

Sanctuary Choir Reminders

Dear Choir:

Just two reminders:

    1) This Wednesday evening, March 9th, is Ash Wednesday and rehearsal will be at 6:00 p.m., the service is at 6:30, and we will rehearse afterwards just until 8:30.

    2) Daylight Savings Time starts this coming Sunday, March 13th; that means setting your clocks ahead one hour ("spring forward, fall over, whatever, etc."), so as not to be late for
choir rehearsal -- which as we all know starts at 8:45 a.m.!

Sincere thanks for your time and devotion.

                    Allan

P.S.  I thought you might be interested to read this exchange between Bill Beckstrand and myself:  I sent him a message yesterday afternoon.

ADK to Bill Beckstrand:  We sang 'Herre Gud" as the anthem this morning.  It went very well, I think, and the young saxophonist -- senior in high school -- played it beautifully.  It also fit in well with the scriptures, as the pastor alluded to in his sermon.

Bill Beckstrand to ADK:  Thanks so much for the word on HERRE GUD... so glad it went well..!!  Just got word from MorningStar as to its publication release, so that's good news (a bunch of other pieces too).
I'm still putting the final touches on "Great God..." working like sixty... having a few turns and surprises (good ones!) that I hadn't counted on, but will have an email (PDF file) to you by morning. Wish I could say tonight, but I have my Borealis Chorale rehearsals tonight, and lessons this afternoon.  I'll be up tonight as late as necessary to get you the goods by morning...

Re: Hymn-Caroling Report

Yes, I think both the singers and the "listeners" found it very meaningful.  What a super idea!  And thanks for
your gracious hospitality, Allan and Linda!

Hymn Caroling

Dear Choir Members:

Just a reminder of the plan to go hymn caroling next Sunday afternoon,
February 27th, for all who are available to do so. The plan is to
depart from the church at 2:00 and to come to our house afterwards for
refreshments. There will be a sign-up sheet at choir rehearsal
Wednesday night. Hope you will be able to join us.

See you Wednesday, and thanks.

Choir Website

Dear Choir Members:

Our web site is ready for visitors. Give it a look!! It is designed to
keep you up to date on music we will be singing, dates we will and will
not sing, as well as listing practice and Sunday start times. In
addition, we will list upcoming musical events of particular interest to
us all. Though I often mention these events on Wednesday evening, the
web site will provide additional information including directions to get
to the venue. We will be happy to list additional events that you care
about. Just email that information to Bill White for posting on the
schedule.

I will continue to send out periodic emails when new information
requires it so the website won't be the only source of information.

Here is the link to the web site.

Fwd: FW: funny snow pic

Sunday morning

Hello Everybody:

Just a reminder that we need to start our Sunday morning rehearsal
promptly at 8:45 -- or even a bit earlier would be great. Remember, we
have 3 (THREE!) pieces to rehearse with the trumpeter. See you then.
