Dear Choir:
Just a reminder that the choir is not singing this Sunday; the
Children's Choir will be providing the special music.
(Another reminder: the time is getting short before we sing the
Schubert Mass in G on May 14th. See you next Wednesday night.)

Reminder for Easter Sunday morning
Dear Choir:
What a moving and significant service last night -- to which the various
choral and other special music numbers greatly contributed. Thanks to
all for your important part in this Holy Week observance.
The greatest of all Holy Week services -- in fact the celebration of the
greatest of all events in human history -- is still to come (although as
you will recall, it comes a bit early Sunday morning): we meet at 7:30
a.m. to rehearse quite a lot of music, but it is fun and uplifting to
sing, I hope. There will be time after the rehearsal to don your
robes, so please come directly to the choir loft unless you arrive early.
Also a reminder that we will be singing for both the 8:30 and 11:00
services; I hope you are able to remain for both services.
Sincere thanks for your commitment of time and talent.

Good Friday plans
Dear Choir:
A reminder that we meet for rehearsal Friday night at 6:00, although it
would be great if you were able to arrive even prior to that. As I
mentioned last night, it will probably be hectic, trying to get everyone
seated, then have enough time to rehearse the music. It would be
helpful if you just come into the choir loft and sit down rather than
hanging around in the aisles or in the pews. We will use our usual
seating pattern, but of course we will need to fit in 20 more singers.
Also, it's likely that the rehearsal will be tight timewise, so if you
had time to put on your robes before the rehearsal starts, that would be
a good idea. But most importantly, do your best to be seated in the
choir loft by 6:00.
Actually, most importantly is to be flexible -- and to keep smiling --
as we try to get things arranged.
Actually, of course, the most important thing is our worshiping together
in a meaningful and thoughtful Good Friday service (but all of the above
will help achieve that).
Thanks for all you do.
And thanks for the great rehearsal last night! It was greatly uplifting
for me and I hope for you also.

Tomorrow morning -- Palm Sunday
Dear Choir:
Sorry this email is so late getting to you, but we just got back in town
and I wanted to remind you that the rehearsal time for the choir
tomorrow morning (Sunday) is 9:00 a.m. -- although it would be nice if
you could arrive a few minutes before that hour.
We will gather in the gathering area to rehearse -- the bells will be in
the choir loft.
We won't need choir robes nor music folders -- just you. For the
service we will be singing an introit (in the gathering area), then lead
the palm-waving processional as we sing the opening hymn, "All Glory,
Laud, and Honor." I will have copies of the music for both of these so
you won't need to have hymnals.
See you then -- 8:47.5 a.m.
Thanks for all you do.

Messiah concert on Sunday, April 9
The Phipps Choral Society of Hudson will present G. F. Handel's "Messiah" on Sunday, April 9th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson, Wisconsin, The program will be conducted from the harpsichord by Layton "Skip" James, former longtime member of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. A few of us in the choir will remember singing under his direction when he was choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater in the 1970's. The chorus and orchestra will be joined by professional soloists and orchestra. The concert is at 2 p.m. and Skip will do a pre-concert talk in the church fellowship room at 1 p.m. Tickets are $22 ($15 for students) and are still available by calling the Phipps Center For the Arts (715) 386-8409, or they can be purchased at the door. The Bethel Lutheran Church (downtown campus) is located at 920 3rd St in Hudson.
Why a "Messiah" performance in April? Handel fully intended it to be performed during the Lenten season and the first public performance was actually in April of 1742. Over the years, the performances of it have migrated to the point where almost all of them occur during the Christmas season.

Mary Neary report
Dear Choir:
Mary Neary gave us a call yesterday to bring us up to date: she is home
from the hospital, where she spent a few nights, and will be hanging
around at home for the next week. She has a friend and a family member
who will be staying with her for that time, and she hopes to be back in
the choir soon. So we'll keep your in our prayers, Mary, and will keep
your choir folder warm in the meantime.
Thanks to all.
