Dear Choir:
As I contemplated the frosty weather forecast today, I thought of the opening lines of the poem "In terra pax" by Robert Bridges, set to music for chorus, soloists, and orchestra by Gerald Finzi, which we sang as our special Christmas music several years ago (Nick White and Karen Weaver sang the solos):
A frosty Christmas Eve, when the stars were shining
Fared I forth alone, where westward falls the hill,
And from many a village in the water'd valley,
Distant music reached me. . . .
I love the poem and the music, but I look forward to not faring "forth alone" this evening, and that despite the weather, everyone will be able to make it for our last rehearsal before the instruments join us next Wednesday night.
And just a reminder that we will rehearse slightly longer than usual, till 9:15, as we make "distant music" for any listeners out in the cold.
Thanks for your hard work and devotion.
Sincerely,
Allan
P.S. Don't expect these poetic emails regularly.
