High Note!

Dear Choir:

After several suggestions from the soprano and tenor sections regarding
the high notes at the end of the descant for the carol "Break Through
the Dark," -- essentially that it would be great if they weren't so
torturously high -- I think there is a good alternative/change we can
implement at that spot, which we can quickly practice on Sunday morning.

But in case you have your score at home with you, this spot is on page
37, right at the end of the piece where everyone sings "by the Holy
Ghost." What we will do in the descant is change the 4 eighth notes on
the syllable "-ly" to two quarter notes with these pitches: D < E,
then sing an F-sharp on the word "Ghost" in the next measure. I think
this will make a very satisfactory ending, and be easier to sing.

Last night's rehearsal was greatly rewarding and enjoyable for me; I
hope it was for you, also. I'm very much looking forward to Sunday's
worship service.

Thanks.

Allan

P.S. A reminder that the plan is to start Sunday morning's rehearsal
promptly at 8:30, which means arriving before then, of course. In fact,
it just occurred to me that in order to take part in the carol sing
beginning at 9:15, it will be necessary to put on robes before the 8:30
rehearsal, since the carol sing will go right up to the time the
organ/oboe prelude begins.

See you then.
